This is great if your whole application is written in WebAssembly. However, most WebAssembly usage is part of a “hybrid application” which also contains JavaScript. We also want to simplify this use case. The web platform shouldn’t be split into “silos” that can’t interact with each other. There’s a secondary pro and con to this pipeline: since the code is compiled, it avoids having to specify as many dependencies in Python itself; in this package’s case, Pillow for image manipulation in Python is optional and the Python package won’t break if Pillow changes its API.
